About River City Sportsplex

The 115-acre athletic complex is home to one of the largest pods of synthetic turf fields in the United States. With 12 synthetic turf fields, it’s a tremendous asset to the county for group use and for hosting sports tourism events throughout the year. The facility includes a concession, restroom, and plaza area as well as plenty of parking to accommodate all sorts of groups at the facility.

River City Sportsplex is within a 6 hour driving distance to 30 million people and is conveniently located near the I-95 corridor, Richmond International Airport and major population centers of the Mid-Atlantic.

River City Sportsplex is available for year-round use by residents and tournament participants. Elite regional and national events, including the Jefferson Cup (soccer), CCL College Showcase (soccer), IWLCA Capital Cup (lacrosse), IWLCA Champions Cup (lacrosse), Summer Rumble (lacrosse), Shooting Star Tournament (field hockey) and a host of multi-sport events have been held at the facility.

River City Sportsplex has parking, restrooms and concessions on site with dining, lodging and entertainment options nearby.

• No food, gum or sunflower seeds on fields
• No pets allowed on fields
• No metal spike cleats
• No parking or driving on grassed areas
• No littering. Please use the trashcans.
• No profanity or obscene behavior
• No glass bottles
• No hitting golf balls
• Caution: Heads up! Balls leave fields.

Plans

Chesterfield County has plans to make River City Sportsplex even better. We want to make your visit the best it can be! We envision River City Sportsplex to be the premiere site for sports tournaments on the East Coast. Our plans include a completed complex with 16 lighted, all-weather, synthetic turf fields and will offer quality fields to play your sport with convenient restrooms and concessions operations. We will make it safe and easy to walk between fields with ample parking for visitors.

Combined with the nearby Clover Hill Athletic Complex, we will offer a 23-field tournament venue that will appeal the largest and best sports tournament organizers in the country. To achieve our vision, we will complete the current 12 field complex, adding restrooms, concessions, parking, pedestrian circulation and other amenities. 

At a later date, we will add the last 4 fields and other compatible recreational facilities on the undeveloped portions of the site.
