Do you live with diabetes, or know someone who does? Senior Connections, (The Capital Area Agency on Aging) in partnership with the Chesterfield County Office of Aging & Disability Services will offer a workshop entitled Diabetes Self-Management Program. This free workshop led by lay leaders will meet for six consecutive weeks on a designated day and time. People with diabetes must deal not only with their disease, but also with the impact this has on their lives and emotions. This workshop will focus on developing an action plan, feedback and problem solving, communication, nutrition and healthy eating, preventing/monitoring low blood sugar, stress management, depression, positive thinking, working with your healthcare provider, skin and foot care, and preventing complications. Adults with diabetes, friends, family members and caregivers are welcome to participate in this workshop. Registration is closed, class is full.

Many people have started raising chickens in their backyard or are thinking about doing so. Come listen to the professionals and learn the ins and out at our Backyard Poultry Seminars at the Central Library. Dr. Mike Persia, Virginia Tech Associate Professor and Extension Specialist will be giving a talk on Urban Poultry Keeping from 10-11 a.m. The second speaker is Kymberly Coffman, VDACS Poultry Specialist talking about Poultry Health and Biosecurity from 11- 12 p.m. Teaching kids about the dairy industry is one of the priorities of Southland Dairy Farmers. The Mobile Dairy Classroom is a traveling milking parlor, featuring a live cow, and an oral presentation. The classroom will be set up at the Central Library from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Show times are 10:15, 12:15, 2:15, and 4:15.
Chick-fil-a will be joining Animal Science Saturday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Take your turn spinning the prize wheel or snap a picture with the cow.

The Access On Demand (ACOD) program is a Pilot Program for transportation services for eligible Chesterfield County and Colonial residents who are elderly, have a physical, cognitive, emotional, visual or other disability, either permanent or temporary or live on a low-income. The ACOD service will provide alternative transportation options to pre-qualified users of Access Chesterfield. For the initial Pilot Program, ACOD services are to be provided to all addresses within Access Chesterfield’s service area for Medical, Employment and any trips for people with disabilities. All other trips may be provided within Chesterfield County. The service area may be expanded or reduced as services are evaluated. Come out and meet the transportation providers as well as learn how to set-up transportation and how the process works!
