CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – Chesterfield County Police have charged the driver involved in a fatal crash that occurred at about 9:05 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, with additional offenses.
Police said a 2017 Honda Pilot, driven by Samuel J. Blair Jr., 62, turned left from Watkins Centre Parkway into the westbound lanes of Midlothian Turnpike; the vehicle was traveling east in the westbound lanes. The vehicle then ran off the road and into the median between the Midlothian Turnpike overpass at Route 288. The vehicle traveled along the median, struck an embankment, went airborne and crossed several lanes of traffic before landing in the southbound lanes of Route 288.
The driver and one passenger were transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. A second passenger, identified as Cynthia D. Blair, 61, of the 14200 block of Leafield Drive, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
On Oct. 6, Samuel Blair, also of the 14200 block of Leafield Drive, was charged with driving while intoxicated in relation to the crash.
On Thursday, Oct. 10, Samuel Blair was served with warrants for DUI - involuntary manslaughter and maiming as a result of driving while intoxicated in relation to the crash. He was arrested and transported to the Chesterfield County Jail, where he remained pending a bond hearing on Friday, Oct. 11.
Police continue their investigation into this crash.
