CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – Police have arrested one suspect and are still seeking several others in relation to a home invasion and animal cruelty incident that occurred in Mallard Cove Apartments at about 9 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 25.
The victims told police that six black males knocked on their apartment door, which is located in the 4100 block of Mallard Landing Circle. When the door was opened, the suspects forced their way inside and displayed a firearm.
The victim's dog chased the suspects out of the apartment before anything was taken and continued to chase the suspects. As the suspects fled, a gunshot was fired, striking and killing the victim's dog.
On Wednesday, Feb. 27, detectives obtained warrants for Jonathan Starks, 20, for attempted robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary in relation to the incident. Starks, of the 4100 block of Mallard Landing Circle, was arrested on Thursday, Feb. 28, at Mallard Cove Apartments with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force. He is currently being held at the Chesterfield County Jail.
