CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – Chesterfield County Police have arrested a man in connection with a shooting that occurred in the 16000 block of Otterdale Station Way on Jan. 8, 2019.
At about 7:13 p.m. on Jan. 8, 2019, police responded to the Wawa on Otterdale Station Way for a report of an adult male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported with life-threatening injuries to a local hospital where he later died. The victim has been identified as Robert S. Gooch IV, 34, of the 7700 block of Hampton Green Drive in Chesterfield.
With the assistance of the public, the suspect was identified. After a brief vehicle pursuit on January 9, he was taken into custody without incident. He has been identified as George Thomas Buschmann, 34, of no permanent address. The investigation indicates that Buschmann and the victim are unknown to each other, and police continue to investigate a motive for the shooting.
Buschmann has been charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, grand larceny of a motor vehicle, felony eluding, possession of a firearm after being involuntarily committed, and transporting a firearm while being subject to a protective order. He is being held in the Chesterfield County Jail pending a court appearance.
