Citizen Engagement and Resources
Have you ever wanted to learn more about your local government? Would you enjoy meeting directly with staff in various departments, as well as county administration and members of the Board of Supervisors, asking questions and providing feedback?
If so, you should consider signing up for Chesterfield’s Government Citizens Academy (GCA).
“Each speaker was knowledgeable and prepared for this academy and actually seemed very interested in our presence,” said a participant from the fall 2023 academy. “It was all well done and I would take this again to learn more. I thought my presence was felt and appreciated.”
Registration is open through Feb. 23 for the spring 2024 academy, which will include 10 sessions offered at various locations across the county on Thursdays from 6-9 p.m.
The program kicks off March 7 and runs through May 9.
GCA slots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Class size is limited, so those unable to attend all sessions may be placed on a waiting list.
Launched in 2017, GCA enables Chesterfield residents to become better informed about their local government’s organization and operations through interactive sessions and tours of public facilities. Participants also receive a comprehensive look at the “how” and the “why” of locally administered programs and services.
GCA is intended for a diverse audience, so it's for you regardless of whether you are a curious high school student, a new business owner, a Chesterfield native or prospective resident, someone looking for volunteer opportunities, or any other member of the Chesterfield community.
Anyone interested in participating in GCA must fill out and submit an application. Those accepted for a particular session will be notified by email.
