CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – Chesterfield County Police have arrested a suspect in relation to the shooting of a Virginia State University police officer on Nov. 12, 2023.
At about 1:34 a.m. on Nov. 12, police responded to the 3400 block of Boisseau Street for a report that a VSU police officer was shot while investigating a disturbance. The officer was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. He remains hospitalized in stable condition at this time.
On Nov. 14, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Washington Field Division, police located and arrested Deonta M. Blount, 21, without incident in relation to the shooting. Blount, of the 1500 block Timsberry Circle, has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer and use of a firearm in the commission of aggravated malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer. Blount is currently being held at the Chesterfield County Jail without bond.
