CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA — At the direction of the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors and in response to parties who have indicated interest, the Chesterfield Economic Development Authority has issued a Request for Proposals seeking a sustainable redevelopment and business plan that would return racing to the Southside Speedway property.
Southside Speedway is steeped in six decades of racing history. As outlined in its RFP, the EDA is looking for a plan that not only returns racing to the site but also provides additional public entertainment space for other uses; generates revenue from the site’s lease or sale and tax revenue; and enhances the opportunity for the future funding and development of a Route 288/Genito interchange. The RFP targets 14.8 acres that includes the track and related facilities. The EDA currently owns the property.
“We’ve heard from many citizens loud and clear, including those who are passionate about returning racing to Southside,” Clover Hill District Supervisor Chris Winslow said. “It’s time to let the process work so that we may achieve a sustainable business plan for the site that helps unlock the area’s immense potential. Conversations and meetings continue as we look for capable partners to work hand in hand with the county.”
Any party interested may submit a proposal, and the EDA has notified parties that have expressed interest in the track’s redevelopment and operation. Proposals should be submitted by Oct. 11 and encompass all aspects outlined in the sections of the RFP, including required components, team identification, financing, development plans, and public participation. A committee will evaluate the proposals based on the outlined criteria.
