Chesterfield County Fleet Services, a division of the Department of General Services, has been named the No. 27 Best Green Fleet by the National Association of Fleet Administrators (NAFA) during the Sustainability Fleet Expo in Raleigh.
This ranking moves Chesterfield up considerably from its previous high of No. 42, which was achieved last year. It’s the fourth time in the last five years that the county has been in the Top 50 Best Green Fleet.
The news about the Green Fleet Awards builds on an impressive 2023 for the division, which was named the No. 16 Leading Fleet for 2023 by Government Fleet Magazine in May, the highest ranking ever for Chesterfield and its second appearance in the Top 20 within the last three years. Prior to that, it was also recognized as a Top 100 Fleet for the fifth-consecutive year at NAFA’s I&E conference in April.
The Green Fleet Awards recognize the most successful fleets that demonstrate success in the following areas:
- Fleet Composition
- Fuel and Emissions
- Policy and Planning
- Fleet Utilization
- Education
- Executive and Employee Involvement
- Supporting Programs
“The sustainable features of the county’s new maintenance facility, as well as its commitment to and the continued growth in the number of alternative fueled vehicles, were key factors in our ranking,” said Assistant Director of General Services Craig Willingham. “Our partnerships with Chesterfield County Public Schools and the Sheriff’s Office with electric school buses and propane-powered vehicles also earned Fleet Services a special award for Best Fuel Technology Integration at the Green Fleet Awards.”
