The Old Jails of Chesterfield County Exhibit

1892 Jail

The Old Jails of Chesterfield County, a new exhibit at the Historic 1892 Jail, details the historic jails that confined prisoners in Chesterfield from the mid-1700s through 1962. Learn about the jail buildings, escape attempts, trials and punishments of long ago. This exhibit is located at the Historic 1892 Jail, which open Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Saturdays, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Join Chesterfield Parks and Recreation for the opening of new exhibit on Saturday, July 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. At 11 a.m., explore jail history in a lecture by former Museum Collections Chairman Brandon Amsel, who will discuss the history of life in jails and prisons through American history. Learn about punishments, types of jails/prisons, and the societies that developed in jails and prisons over time.
