Chesterfield Announces Community Engagement and Resources Department Naming

Community Engagement and Resources

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. --- In an effort to better reflect its current work and future mission, Chesterfield County’s Citizen Information and Resources Department is being renamed to Community Engagement and Resources, effective immediately.

Community Engagement and Resources (CER) has long been focused on assisting residents, businesses and visitors through a variety of service-focused offices. While using “information” in the title still speaks to much of what the department does, engaging the community is at the center of what the shared mission has become and will continue to be.

“As Citizen Information and Resources has developed over the past five years and looks toward the future, we were able to take time to pause and redefine a name that points to the heart of what we do beyond providing information and that is engaging with our community,” said Director Emily Ashley. “The new name quickly defines our department as a place for anyone who lives, works and plays in Chesterfield to be able to reach out and engage with our team and the services that this entire community provides.”

At its core, CER assists residents in connecting to the community and accessing needed resources throughout their lives through things like Aging and Disability ServicesMobility ServicesMulticultural EngagementVolunteer Services and Youth Services

“A few years ago, we took existing resources amongst many departments to focus on citizen resources,” said County Administrator Dr. Joe Casey. “These resources have evolved to many engagement activities so it’s only fitting to evolve the name of the department as well.”
