As part of the county’s celebration of the coming 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, the Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia will be holding an interactive performance on Sunday, June 4 at 2 p.m. at the Historic 1917 Courthouse of the 1773 Baptist Preacher Trial.

In partnership with the Chesterfield County 250th Revolutionary War Committee, this event will allow attendees to experience the trial that led Americans on the path toward religious freedom:

“The year is 1773, a minister must obtain an official license from British Crown authorities to preach in public. Archibald Cary, the magistrate of Chesterfield County, is arresting individuals who openly break this law. Citizens across the countryside begins to question the Crown’s authority to regulate religious teachings.”

Registration is required due to limited seating. Because the Historic 1917 Courthouse is an active court, a headcount with names of those attending is required for this historically-accurate portrayal.

Those interested in attending or those who have questions should contact the Chesterfield Historical Society at (804) 796-7121 or via email at Admin@ChesterfieldHistory.com
