For the first time tomorrow, Chesterfield is hosting a special event to highlight its ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds, the inaugural Earth Day Festival will bring together county departments, businesses, nonprofits and residents in a celebration of safeguarding our natural resources.
“Protecting the environment is something that’s important to us every day – this is an opportunity to engage with the community and environmentally conscious partner agencies in a fun, family-friendly way,” said Clay Bowles, deputy county administrator for community operations.
The Earth Day festival will include entertainment, food trucks and outdoor activities, as well as demonstrations from Parks and Recreation and Cooperative Extension.
In all, 22 vendors have signed up to participate in the event, which is presented by C-Fit Community. That number includes companies that provide curbside collection of trash and recyclables in Chesterfield; they’ll have representatives on site to explain their role in the county’s transition to a subscription-based curbside recycling model and register interested customers.
Also, be sure to stop by the county Waste and Resource Recovery Team’s station. Its theme for Earth Day this year is “give the Earth a helping hand,” meaning we all can do our part to keep waste out of our landfills through the three R’s: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
Children and adults will have an opportunity to paint their handprints onto a recycling container as a commitment to play their role in protecting the environment.
Need another reason to attend the Earth Day Festival? You could leave with a free herb or vegetable plant of your own. C-Fit Community will be giving away plants while supplies last.
