On Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023, Planning Department staff Drew Noxon and Greg Allen led a discussion about bikeways and trails during the Planning Commission’s afternoon work session. View the meeting video (bikeways and trails begins at timestamp 09:01) and presentation (PDF).
Information presented included the history, purpose and components of the county’s bikeways and trails plan, including major bike routes which traverse the county. Implementation tools were also discussed such as the Bikeways and Trails Committee, which has driven many decisions regarding trail routing and design. Also discussed were multiple recently constructed trail projects, as well as multiple high-profile projects planned to begin in the near term.
Planning staff stressed the importance of the bikeways and trails plan for Chesterfield County and its emphasis on connecting people and places, noting that although there are currently many disconnected segments of trails, they will eventually connect to create continuous routes for enjoyment by the county’s citizens.
