CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – The Chesterfield County Police Department continues to investigate a crash that occurred at about 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30, in the 12700 block of Midlothian Turnpike.
Police said a 2003 Honda Accord was traveling east on Midlothian Turnpike when it ran off the road to the left, crossed the median and struck a 2016 Honda Pilot that was traveling west. The impact caused the Honda Pilot to roll over; while rolling over, the Honda Pilot was struck by a 2015 Hyundai Tucson, which was also traveling west on Midlothian Turnpike.
The driver of the Honda Accord, Matthew J. Fischer, 56, was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. Two juvenile passengers in the Honda Pilot were transported to an area hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.
On Oct. 30, Fischer, of the 3300 block of Quail Hill Drive in Chesterfield, was charged with driving under the influence in relation to the crash. On Nov. 1, Fischer died as a result of injuries he sustained in the crash.
