CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – Chesterfield County Police continue to investigate a fatal shooting that occurred in the 6700 block of Amster Road on Sunday, February 5, 2023.
At about 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 5, police responded to a reported shooting in the 6700 block of Amster Road. Upon arrival, officers located three victims who had been shot. One victim, identified as Barbie Brown, 43, of the 11000 block of Arbor Croft Way, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two adult male victims, one with serious injuries and one with minor injuries, were transported to an area hospital; their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
Through investigation, detectives identified Barbie Brown’s estranged husband, Terrell L. Brown, 34, of the 13700 block of Watkins Glen Road, as a suspect in the incident. Based on statements made by Terrell Brown on social media, detectives obtained warrants for him for second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in relation to the shooting.
Officers were actively working with regional law enforcement partners to locate Terrell Brown when his vehicle, a black 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe, was spotted by Virginia State Police on Interstate 295 in Hanover County at about 12:55 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 6. When troopers initiated a traffic stop on Interstate 95, Terrell Brown pulled onto the shoulder near exit 86. As troopers exited their vehicles to approach the Tahoe, they heard a gunshot from the vehicle.
When they approached, they found Terrell Brown suffering from a gunshot wound to his head; he was the only occupant of the vehicle. Rescue personnel responded, but Terrell Brown was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation indicates that Terrell Brown shot himself as troopers approached.
At this point, the investigation indicates that Terrell Brown shot Barbie Brown as she was entering the Amster Road apartment, which is the residence of one of the other shooting victims. Barbie Brown and this shooting victim are known to each other. This victim was opening the apartment door for Barbie Brown when Terrell Brown opened fire.
The third victim is a resident of a nearby apartment and he was struck inside his residence by a round Terrell Brown fired as he fled the area.
