CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – Chesterfield County Police continue to investigate a fatal crash that occurred in 7900 block of Midlothian Turnpike just before 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2022.
Police said two pedestrians were crossing the roadway when they were both struck by a 2014 Kia Optima that was traveling west on Midlothian Turnpike. The Kia initially stopped at the scene briefly but then fled the area. One of the pedestrians, identified as Skyler Allen Steak, 26, of the 100 block of Ruthers Road in North Chesterfield, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The second pedestrian was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
While police were still on scene investigating the incident the Kia returned. The driver of the Kia, identified as Vivian Whiting-Bailey of the 13500 block of Plum Harvest Way in Chesterfield, was arrested for DUI and felony hit and run. Whiting-Bailey is being held at the Chesterfield County Jail without bond. Police continue their investigation into this incident.
