CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA — With the November General Election now less than three months away, the Chesterfield County Registrar’s Office is looking for registered voters to become Officers of Election.
Now more than ever, Officers of Election are vital to the electoral process. These registered voters ensure the integrity of the election and assist voters in having a successful and enjoyable voting experience.
Chesterfield currently boasts more than 1,300 Officers of Election. Despite that number, and in part because of the majority of officers being over the age of 65, it is in the county’s best interest to recruit additional Officers of Election both for November and going forward.
“Every election is an opportunity for voters to become public servants and this year is no different in that respect,” said Chesterfield General Registrar and Director of Elections Missy Vera. “Stepping up and becoming an Officer of Election is a wonderful way for people to give back to their community and help their fellow residents exercise their right to vote while also learning more about the democratic process.”
All potential officers must be registered voters in Virginia.
A typical day for an officer working the polls begins at 5 a.m. and does not end until all the votes are counted and reported.
