Registration Now Open for Chesterfield Government Citizens Academy

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA —  The Department of Citizen Information and Resources is excited to announce the fall session of the Chesterfield Government Citizens Academy will be offered on Wednesday morning from 9-11:30 a.m. Sept. 14-Nov. 9 with registration already underway. 

Those who are interested in taking part in the GCA this fall can sign up until Friday, Sept. 2 by visiting chesterfield.gov/govacademy.

The Government Citizens Academy provides Chesterfield citizens with an opportunity to learn about their local government and participate in interactive sessions. Participants receive a comprehensive look at the how and the why of local government programs. GCA sessions offer an opportunity for participants to learn directly from department leaders, including members from the Board of Supervisors, as well as offer feedback. 

The academy is free to all participants with sessions offered at various locations throughout Chesterfield.

Class size is limited, so those unable to attend a particular session may be placed on a waiting list. For more information, contact GCA@chesterfield.gov or 804-796-7100. Once registered, participants will receive an email with the details for the sessions.

Quick info about the Government Citizens Academy:

  • Started in spring 2017.
  • To date, more than 100 people have graduated from the academy.
  • Academies last nine weeks, and typically include 25-30 people per class.
  • The spring session meets in the evenings.
  • The fall academy meets in the mornings.
  • Academy presenters are county leaders from different departments, offering their expertise on county programs and services.
