The original replica headstock at Mid-Lothian Mines Park was constructed by the developer of the adjacent commercial area. Due to the type of joint assembly, inadequate waterproofing, and use of yellow pine, water has penetrated into these joints and led to premature failure. The original developer is paying to have the current structure disassembled and any sound wood salvaged. Plans for a new replica include more modern steel plate joinery and better timber pre-treatment. Work at the site will begin summer 2022.
