CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – Chesterfield County Police have arrested one suspect in relation to a fatal shooting that occurred in the 10900 block of Stepney Road at about 10:21 p.m. on June 3.
Police responded to the area of Stepney Road and Weybridge Road for a report of shots fired. During the course of the investigation, police determined a total of six people were shot and two others suffered non-firearm related injuries. At this point, the investigation indicates more than 50 shots were fired at the scene.
When officers arrived on scene, they found an adult male, identified as Taborri J. Carter, 20, suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers rendered emergency aid to Carter, of the 21100 block of Bailey's Grove Drive, but he died at the scene as a result of his injuries. The five other shooting victims, who had non-life threatening injuries, had left the scene and gone to area hospitals and other locations before police arrived. The investigation indicates the two victims with non-firearm related injuries were struck by a vehicle as they fled from the shooting.
On Thursday, June 9, Chesterfield police, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), arrested Andre L. Coleman, 18, for second-degree murder, attempted malicious wounding and two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony in relation to the shooting. Coleman, of the 300 block of Libby Avenue in Hopewell, was arrested in Richmond and is currently being held at the Chesterfield County Jail without bond.
At this point, the investigation indicates that neither Carter nor Coleman were members of a high school graduating class in Chesterfield County this year.
"We are fervently committed to protecting our community and we will expend all necessary resources to obtain justice for those harmed by bad actors," said Col. Jeffrey Katz, chief of police.
