CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – Police have arrested a suspect who filed a false shooting and malicious wounding report on Saturday, May 21, 2022.
At about 9:50 p.m. on May 21, police responded to the 8900 block of Chester Forest Lane for a report that an adult male has been shot. The man, identified as Tristan G. McCoun, 18, reported that he had heard gunshots outside and had put on a bullet-proof vest to go outside to check the area. He reported that he was shot by an unknown suspect as he attempted to exit his residence and he returned fire. The shot struck McCoun's bullet-proof vest.
Upon further investigation, detectives determined that McCoun, of the 8900 block of Chester Forest Lane, had shot himself with a handgun. He then fired additional shots through his front door and called police to report that he had been shot by and had fired shots at an unknown suspect.
On Wednesday, June 1, detectives obtained warrants for McCoun for reckless handling of a firearm and giving false reports to law enforcement officials. He turned himself in at the Chesterfield County Jail on June 1 and was released on an unsecured bond.
