CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA — The Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Department of Social Services (DSS) is launching new effort this month to help connect families and child care facilities with quality child care professionals in the community.
“Working a full-time job and finding a licensed, quality primary child care provider can be stressful,” said Caitlyn Plaskett, Employment Services Supervisor for Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Department of Social Services. “The same can also be said for child care facilities seeking employees to staff their operations with quality candidates during the current competitive and tight job market.”
Through this new effort, the Chesterfield-Colonial Heights DSS hopes to assist residents by providing resources to identify quality child care facilities for their children, along with matching eligible families with financial assistance to assist with child care costs.
Meanwhile, Chesterfield-Colonial Heights DSS also plans to work within its own network of child care providers in helping them identify candidates to hire at their respective facilities– including providing access to necessary training and resources, and helping people seeking to open their own child care facilities in Chesterfield County or Colonial Heights.
“It is truly a two-way operation,” Plaskett said. “This service is not only giving residents the opportunity for us to help get access to quality child care; it’s also helping people become child care providers and even giving them the opportunity to start their own child care business. This is a wonderful opportunity for our community.”
