CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – SmartWater CSI helped police apprehend a suspect who burglarized the Ettrick Deli at 3608 E. River Road.
At about 11 p.m. on Sunday, April 11, police responded to an alarm call at the Ettrick Deli, which has been burglarized several times in recent months. Following previous break-ins, the business was equipped with SmartWater CSI, a colorless liquid that contains a unique code that is registered to a particular user.
SmartWater CSI is invisible to the naked eye and is visible only under a unique light available to law enforcement through SmartWater CSI. Covert delivery systems, such as the one installed at the Ettrick Deli, invisibly mark suspects who have committed crimes.
When officers arrived at the business, they located a male suspect; he ignored verbal commands from officers and instead fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit, he was apprehended. Using the issued light, officers saw that the suspect's clothing and items in his possession were marked with SmartWater CSI.
The suspect, Christopher S. Gaines, 52, of no permanent address, was arrested and charged with several offenses, including breaking and entering, petit larceny – third offense and trespassing.
SmartWater CSI marks your property for a minimum of five years; several Chesterfield County neighborhoods have used SmartWater CSI to protect their property by marking their items with the liquid. If you would like to work with Chesterfield County Police to bring this product to your business or neighborhood, please contact the Community Services Division at 804-318-8699.
