CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – Chesterfield Police are currently on scene investigating an officer-involved shooting in the 11300 block of Sunfield Drive. A barricaded suspect involved in the incident has been taken into custody.
At about 7:34 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 18, police responded to a reported domestic disturbance at a home in the 11300 block of Sunfield Drive. It had been reported that an adult male had threatened an adult female with a knife and had held her against her will.
Responding officers entered the house to begin investigating the incident. Shortly after they arrived, the male suspect then exited a bedroom and pointed what appeared to be a long gun at them. The officers fired at the suspect, who then retreated back into the bedroom. The officers made a tactical withdrawal from the house with the unharmed female and summoned emergency medical, negotiations and SWAT personnel to the scene.
Officers used a technological resource to locate the suspect in the house; the suspect, who was found in a bedroom, attempted to disable it. Officers then introduced a second technological measure and were able to see that the suspect was injured and somewhat lethargic.
A group of SWAT officers entered the house to attempt to get the suspect out to rescue personnel. The suspect was armed with a knife when officers encountered him, but they were able to disarm him and take him into custody. At this point, he has been transported to an area hospital for treatment.
A long gun was observed in the house, and officers are in the process of securing search warrants for the residence. This is an active scene, and residents and motorists are asked to stay clear of the area.
