CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – Police have arrested a man in relation to a robbery that occurred at the Wells Fargo outdoor ATM located at 5630 Hopkins Road on Thursday, February 13.
At about 3:21 p.m. today, police said, a male suspect displayed a firearm and demanded the adult victim withdraw money from the ATM. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the area in a vehicle.
A short time later, officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle and suspect. After further investigation, the suspect, Matthew T. Bates, was arrested without incident. Bates, 20, who is currently homeless, has been charged with robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is currently being held at the Chesterfield County Jail without bond.
