Community Information and Resources
Feb. 3, 2020
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA — Organizers of the inaugural Chesterfield Community Champions are still looking for additional nominations and have extended the nomination deadline to Friday, Feb. 14. Youth nominations, in particular, are needed. However, all seven categories will be accepting nominations through the extended deadline.
The Chesterfield Community Champions event honors residents, businesses and organizations who volunteer their time and resources to effect positive change in their communities.
This year’s ceremony replaces the Youth Awards and the Treasured Volunteers events.
Awards will be given to winners in seven categories of volunteers. Nominations are especially needed for:
- Youth (ages 12 and under),
- Teen (ages 13 and older),
- Youth Group (two or more volunteers under age 18).
Other nomination categories include adult (ages 18 to 59), senior (ages 60 and over), group (two or more volunteers with no age restriction) and organization (a business, church, etc.).
According to a 2018 U.S. Census estimate, there are nearly 83,000 residents under the age of 18 that reside in the county, making up roughly 24 percent of the county’s overall population.
With thousands of youth living in Chesterfield, organizers are hoping to draw a variety of entrees from people that may know of a young person, or youth organization, worthy of being nominated as a Community Champion.
To nominate a person or group, please visit the Chesterfield Community Champions webpage to submit an easy to complete nomination form. Nominations are open through the extended deadline of Friday, Feb. 14, 2020.
A thorough breakdown of the categories, along with examples of qualifying nominees, also can be found on the Community Champions website.
Chesterfield Community Champions will be held at the Chesterfield Career and Technical Center (CTC) @ Hull on Thursday, April 2, 2020 from 7-9 p.m.
