County residents with disabilities can participate in recreation opportunities thanks to the therapeutic recreation staff at Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation Department. This February explore all the activities and services offered by the Parks and Recreation Department in celebration of Therapeutic Recreation Month.
“Therapeutic Recreation programs focus on social, cognitive, physical, emotional and life skills,” said Tory Rogers, CTRS, Therapeutic Recreation Supervisor. Participants engage in a variety of offerings, including classes, community outings and summer camps. Many gain valuable skills and experiences which prepare them to participate independently in community settings. Inclusion services are also provided for those who need supports to enroll in any program.
Staff members hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited program and have passed a national certification exam qualifying them to work as Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists (CTRS).
