CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – Chesterfield Police have arrested a suspect in relation to a homicide that occurred in the 2900 block of Providence Creek Road on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
At about 6:30 a.m. on Jan. 28, police and rescue personnel responded to the 2900 block of Providence Creek Road for a report of a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, rescue personnel determined that the adult male driver of the vehicle was suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim, identified as Franklin L. Farrens, 79, of the 13700 block of Golf Course Road in Chesterfield, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives have arrested Bernard E. Smith, 18, of the 2900 block of Providence Creek Road, for second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is being held in the Chesterfield County Jail pending a court appearance.
