CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA — The Chesterfield County Department of Utilities has received the Sustainable Water Utility Award from the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies. This award recognizes water utilities that have made a commitment to management that achieves a balance of innovative and successful efforts in areas of economic, social and environmental endeavors. Chesterfield Utilities was one of 15 utilities in the nation that were recognized.
The recognition was based on Chesterfield’s dedication to tracking and improving performance as well as for its competitive rates. The rates adequately recover costs, provide for reserves and prepare for future needs, putting the department in a strong financial position to maintain a triple AAA bond rating and ensure financial stability. Its environmental management system has expanded to incorporate a health and safety component, and it strives to meet the needs of its growing community through innovative approaches to demand management, waste reduction and overall process improvements.
Chesterfield Utilities’ being recognized with this award was highlighted at the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 13. In regards to this honor, Dr. Joe Casey, county administrator, stated:
“Chesterfield customers can be assured that our award-winning utility is providing reliable, safe and clean drinking water. In addition, their mindfulness of being an environmental steward above regulatory standards illustrates their commitment to our citizens. I am delighted that our employees’ dedication, innovation and hard work has earned them this recognition and I offer my congratulations.”
