Matoaca District Supervisor Kevin Carroll will host a second community meeting Jan. 10, 2023, 6:30 to 8 p.m., to discuss concepts for the reuse of the former Matoaca Elementary School building and campus. The school, which sits on about 11 acres, has been vacant since spring 2021. 

The scheduled meeting, which will be held at the new Matoaca Elementary School at 20300 Halloway Ave., is a follow-up to a meeting Supervisor Carroll hosted in October. The meeting will provide citizens additional opportunities to learn about the proposed reuse project and offer feedback. The meeting will also be livestreamed via Facebook.

The proposed plan calls for retaining the historic school building by redeveloping the interior space to create housing options for seniors, and to bring community park and recreation amenities to the grounds. 

Staff from the county’s Community Enhancement, Parks and Recreation, and General Services departments will be on hand to present information, answer questions and collect community input. 

In addition to the Jan. 10 community meeting, staff is conducting an online survey about the project.
