Cooperative Extension will provide all materials and tools needed to make your shiitake log. Tips on mushroom culture, harvest, storage and propagation will be given. Your new log should be at home in dappled shade, exposed to rain as in a forest.

Using a locally adapted sawdust spawn to inoculate oak logs, you can have a first crop of delicious shiitake mushrooms in about 6 to 10 months. Additional crops will follow in as little as every six weeks with forcing techniques. Logs produce for 2 to 4 years during warm weather.
