Explore the story of the original 1619 “Thanksgiving” which occurred before the Thanksgiving generally associated with the Pilgrims in the Massachusetts colony. Interpreters will be demonstrating the common cooking techniques and food offerings of both the Powhatan and English communities as well as the various trade items that both sides sought for their mutual comfort and the strengthening of ongoing alliances. Some interpreters may even have you sing a song of that time. Musket and bow and arrow demonstrations will complete the day. This year's event is in partnership with American Evolution 2019 Commemoration's Customs, Cultures, and Cuisines festival which celebrates 400 years of Virginia's unique history and culture.
