Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office is looking for candidates for our Sheriff's Office Basic Academy to become the newest members of our deputy workforce.

The Sheriff's Office provides law enforcement and security to the county's jail facility, court house facilities, and serves criminal warrants and civil process paperwork throughout the county. In addition to our primary focuses, we serve as a force multiplier for Chesterfield County Police Department during critical incidents and have several specialized teams and assignments with the focus on providing safety and security to the dynamic and growing population of Chesterfield County and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Application Process

Applicants must complete several steps to be selected as a Sheriff's Office deputy:

  • Submit an online application
  • Pass the initial background and driving record check
  • Schedule and pass our physical agility test and written test
  • Participate in a character/background investigation which includes an interview with a background investigator, a polygraph examination and reference checks
  • Successfully complete a panel interview
  • Medical examination (upon a contingent job offer)
  • Psychological evaluation (upon a contingent job offer)
