State law and federal law (the Help America Vote Act) require every polling location in Virginia must be equipped with at least one accessible voting system.
The Express Vote machine is available at each polling place to assist voters with disabilities to vote in the same private and independent manner as a voter without a disability.
The Express Vote machine does not store votes. It simply marks a ballot which can then be taken to the Optical Scanner to cast the vote.
An Officer of Election will also be available at each polling place to assist voters at curbside who are 65 years of age and older, or any voter with a physical disability.
Voters with continuing disabilities may apply annually to receive absentee ballots for all elections within a given year using the annual absentee ballot process.
