Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
The SNAP program is designed to promote better nutrition for low-income families by increasing their food purchasing power.
To be able to utilize SNAP:
- An interview is required for this program.
- Each application is screened for entitlement to emergency service.
- If screened as an emergency, eligibility will be determined within seven days.
- Regular processing is thirty days from the date of application.
- Eligibility for SNAP and the amount of the allotment varies according to:
- Deductions
- Income
- Number of eligible household members
- Other eligibility factors
- Resources
- SNAP allotments are based on the date that the agency receives your application.
If you think you may be eligible, you should file your application immediately by:

There are several ways to apply for benefits:
- Visit CommonHelp. At this website, you may apply for:
- Child Care Services
- Energy Assistance (Fuel, Crisis, or Cooling)
- Food Assistance (SNAP)
- Health Care Coverage
- Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
- Applications for Medicaid, SNAP, and TANF are now accepted over the phone at 855-635-4370
- You can visit our office Monday through Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. (no appointment is needed):

The toll-free number is 866-281-2448, and they are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- How can I get a new Medicaid card number?

If you misplace your card, contact your Medicaid worker regarding a replacement card.

There are a several options for long term services and supports. If you meet the criteria, you may choose from several services:
- Adult Day Centers
- Nursing Facility
- Personal Care Aides
- Program of All Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE)

- What if I need help with finding a provider?

For information on providers, you may call the Medicaid Member Hotline at 804-786-6145 or visit the Department of Medical Assistance Services website and complete a provider search.
- What happens if my Medicaid is terminated?

You will no longer have Long Term Services and Supports if you don’t have Medicaid insurance. Medicaid pays for your services.
