Beach Road and Riverway Road Intersection Improvements

About

Chesterfield County and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) have identified interim and long-term safety improvements to the Beach Road and Riverway Road intersection. The improvements are an all-way stop intersection (interim) and a proposed roundabout (long-term).

On Nov. 29, 2023, VDOT and county representatives presented information on the all-way stop and the proposed roundabout at a community meeting. View the Beach Road/Riverway Road community meeting presentation video.

Public Comment Through Wednesday, Dec. 13

Comments on the proposed improvements will be accepted through 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2023.

Traffic Impacts

The all-way stop can be installed with little disruption to existing traffic. The long-term improvement will require the development of maintenance of traffic plans for the construction phase. It is anticipated that construction will take place without a detour using off-peak-hour flagging operations.

Project Timeline

The all-way stop will be implemented before the end of December 2023. The long-term solution will require securing funding to allow the completion of design, right-of-way acquisition, utility relocations and construction phases. Once funding is secured, the project could be completed in five years. Design is currently underway.
