Chesterfield County 275th Celebration

Celebrating the Founding of Chesterfield

In 2024, Chesterfield County will reach a milestone, celebrating its 275th anniversary. Officially created on May 25, 1749, Chesterfield was formed from a part of the County of Henrico. In 1790, Chesterfield's population was 14,000; in 2023, the population exceeded 380,000. Join us as we ring the bell, celebrate history and reflect on our accomplishments from the past 275 years.

Chesterfield celebrated its 250th anniversary in 1999 with numerous special events and now, 25 years later, a yearlong celebration is being planned to honor our past and focus on our bright future. The 275th anniversary special events committee, comprised of county staff, representatives from Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia, private foundations and regional partners, is developing activities for 2024 that include living history programming, presentations, concerts, special events and much more.

Chesterfield 275th Celebration Survey

The 275th anniversary is a celebration of Chesterfield County history and its community members. To that end, the committee is asking the community to help create programming that will engage the public and celebrate the diversity of our population by completing the Chesterfield 275th Celebration survey.
