Transportation Studies
Identifying Solutions for Transportation Needs
Transportation regularly conducts studies to identify solutions for a variety of transportation needs, including roadway congestion/operations/safety, bike and pedestrian accommodations, and transit services. Studies include conceptual sketches, cost estimates and provide the supporting data necessary as Transportation seeks funding for the improvements.

Fall Line Trail Spur Study
This study will identify nearby destinations (such as parks or schools) or trail-user origination points to connect to the Fall Line Trail.

Hopkins Road/Chippenham Parkway Interchange Modification Report (IMR)
Regional Surface Transportation Program (RSTP) funds are being used to identify improvements that will improve operations and safety at the Hopkins Road/Chippenham Parkway interchange. The study is underway and anticipated to be complete in summer of 2023.

Polo Parkway and Price Club Boulevard Road Diet Studies
Polo Parkway and Price Club Boulevard are being evaluated for potential road diets. If they qualify and VDOT agrees, the interim solution (restriping of the existing roads) can be accomplished when VDOT resurfaces the roads.

Riverway Road at Beach Road and River Road Intersection Evaluation
This study will evaluate the intersections of Riverway Road with Beach Road and River Road to determine what improvements (interim and long-term) are needed to address existing and projected traffic.

Route 1 at Bensley Commons Boulevard and Elliham Avenue Intersection Improvement Study
A study is underway to identify operational and safety improvements.

Route 1 Pedestrian Crossing Safety Study
This study will evaluate the Route 1 corridor from Richmond to Colonial Heights to strategically locate pedestrian crossings and determine locations and the type of equipment required.

Route 10 (Route 288 to Courthouse Road) Weave Mitigation Study
Central Virginia Transportation Authority (CVTA) funds are being used to conduct a detailed operational and safety analysis on Route 10 from Route 288 to Courthouse Road.

Route 60 Local Transit Service Study
A study is underway to determine the viability of local bus service on Route 60 from Chippenham Parkway to Wal-Mart Way.

Route 60, Village of Midlothian, Corridor Study
A study is underway to identify improvements along Route 60 consistent with the vision/goals of the Midlothian Special Area Plan.

Route 288 (Powhite Parkway – Hull Street) Corridor Study
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) US 360/Route 288 Interchange Area Study completed in 2016, identified a series of projects to improve existing and future safety and operations in the area of the interchange.
