Future Community Leaders Certificate

Participants must complete 25 hours of volunteer service in order to receive their certificate. Ten of these hours must be done through the Chesterfield County Government or Chesterfield County Public Schools.

  • Parks and Recreation, Naomi Klass
    • Rockwood Nature Center is currently looking for two volunteers to work on the animal care team.
      • Volunteers need to be a minimum of 16 years old, and would participate on Wednesday evenings from 6-8 p.m. A long term commitment is needed with this position, as the animal keeper will train the candidates.
    • Two or three teens needed (minimum of 14 years old) to  help with Denise Flora’s camps and classes over the summer, based at Rockwood Nature Center. Volunteers would need to be on site from 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., and it is desired that they commit to at least two full weeks.
      • The two camps are Monday through Friday, and run in week long sessions from June 15-19, June 22-26, July 6-10, and July 13-17. 
      • Volunteers helping with the June sessions will work with children ages 4-5, and July volunteers will work with kids ages 6-7.
    • Camp Red Tail Hawk is in need of volunteers (minimum of 16 years old) to help with camp kids ages 7-9. The camp is an outdoor adventure camp where volunteers will help campers explore nature, climb trees, create art projects and more. 
      • Volunteers can help at any of six sessions which will run from June 29-July 3, July 6-July 10, July 13-July 17, July 20-July 24, July 27-July 31, August 3- August 7. 
      • Volunteers are needed on site at Rockwood Nature Center from 8:30am - 1:30pm.
  • Cooperative Extension, Bethany Eigel
    • Volunteer to help with 4-H day camp. This is a one-week commitment and applicants may be interviewed. Contact Bethany by June 1 for details and to apply.
  • Libraries
    • Currently accepting volunteers 14+. Visit CCPL to apply.
  • Building and Grounds Horticulture Shop, Thomas Tuttle
    • Volunteers would work with trained horticulturists and arborists to maintain the county complex during the summer months (beginning in mid-May).
