Courthouse Road Trail

Phase I (Salem Church Road to Courts Complex Road)

Federal VDOT Smartscale funds were obtained to provide an asphalt trail along Courthouse Road from Salem Church Road to Krause Road, and from Courts Complex Road to the existing sidewalk at the County Courthouse parking lot. This project connects to the existing Chesterfield County Government Center Trail System and is the first phase in a larger trail to connect to the Pocahontas State Park Trail System. This project phase was completed in December 2021.

Phase II (Courts Complex Road to Route 10)

A 10 foot-wide asphalt trail is planned for south side of Courthouse Road from Route 10 to tie into the existing trail east of Courts Complex Road.

Traffic Impacts

Courthouse Road and Courts Complex Road will remain open to traffic at all times. Some daytime alternating lane closures will be necessary during construction.

Project Timeline

Preliminary engineering is underway, a Willingness to Hold a Public Hearing was advertised in October 2022 with comments received by Nov. 4, 2022. Construction is anticipated to begin summer 2023.

Phase III (Route 10 to Fallow Drive)

An asphalt trail is planned for south side of Courthouse Road from Route 10 to Fallow Drive. This is an extension of the existing county-complex trail network and the Courthouse Road (Courts Complex Road – Route 10) trail.
