Camps
Dates & Registration
Chesterfield 4-H Jamestown Overnight Camp will be held June 15-19, 2020. Online registration opens at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2020. Space is limited.
Registration
All Virginia 4-H summer camps, both day and residential, have been canceled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic — including the Chesterfield 4-H junior camp at the Jamestown 4-H Center. The decision was made to help reduce the rate of infection in the state and flatten the curve.
Though we are not able to hold camp this year, we remain committed to growing future leaders and educating youth in Chesterfield County.
Thank you for your understanding as we go through these unprecedented and challenging times together.
Transportation
Transportation to and from camp is not provided. Parents must drop off and pick up their child from the Jamestown 4-H Center.
3751 4-H Club Road
Williamsburg, VA 23185
Camp Store/Care Packages
Camp store and care packages will be offered at the same time as registration. We will offer a great selection of items at the same time you register your child to hopefully make this a less stressful process! New items are being offered (hoodies, water bottles, plush animals, and more)!
Age Requirements
Camper must turn age 9 between Oct. 1, 2019 and Sept. 30, 2020. Counselors in Training (CIT) must turn 13 as of Jan. 1, 2020. Please sign up for CIT if your camper is interested in being a counselor in future. There will be a separate registration link for CIT’s to use.

Online registration opens at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2020.

The Camp Fee of $300 includes:
- Camp T-shirt
- Group picture
- Insurance
- Lodging
- Meals
- Supplies
Payments
- Payments are due with completed paperwork to confirm your child’s spot at camp
- Check or money order made out to “Treasurer of Virginia Tech”
- Cash payments are not accepted
- There will be a $50 return check fee, payable in check, money order or cashier’s check
Roommate Requests
We are no longer taking roommate requests. This is being done for a number of reasons. Inevitable, each year we are unable to accommodate everyone’s request which leads to disparity and disappointment. Often requests come in that are conflicting and make for awkward situations. When requests can be accommodated it sometimes creates situations where all but 1 or 2 of the campers knows each other well and those 1 or 2 campers end up feeling left out and alienated despite staff’s best efforts to integrate the room. Summer camp is a place for kids to get out of their comfort zone and interact with new people in a fun low pressure environment. Summer camp is a place for new experiences. Campers may miss out on meeting a new lifelong friend that they would not otherwise have made had it not been for them meeting them for the first time at camp in their cabin. Please allow your campers to get the full experience of camp and all the glorious benefits that come with it that will follow them for a lifetime.
Cancellation & Refunds
To receive a full refund (less $50 processing fee) you must cancel in writing by May 9, 2020. Allow 8 weeks to process refund. Please Note: No refunds after May 10! And no multi or sibling discounts. Email Jennifer Coates or call 804-751-4429 to request a form.
We realize there is concern and uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 issue and how it may impact our summer camp program. Our policy will be to follow all recommended guidelines from the state, and in the event that camp were canceled in June due to increased health and safety concerns, all families would receive a FULL refund of their payments.
We also acknowledge that some families may decide to cancel, even if camp itself is still held as planned and in that case we will still follow our cancellation policy that’s listed above under Cancellation and Refunds.

- Is the day camp educational? One common theme throughout all 4 weeks: Hands-on learning through numerous actives, guest and projects.
- Who is caring for my child at day camp? Paid and volunteer staff have been screened through the county background check system. Trained teen counselors are hired to support staff as well.
- Is food provided? No. Campers are required to bring a packed lunch plus an additional item for afternoon snack and water bottle for daily use. Please mark items clearly with your child’s name. Exception: Weeks 3 and 4 will include cooking lessons/tastings–please make staff aware of any dietary restrictions. These campers must still pack a lunch and snack daily!
- Is this day camp strictly indoors? We will make use of outdoor space for certain activities–please apply sunscreen to your child in the morning before drop-off. There will be weekly walking field trips and morning/afternoon breaks outdoors daily.
- What is the camp arrival & departure policy? Please note our camp has a very active schedule that may include off-site field trips, so please be respectful of the allotted window for drop-off and pick-up times.
