Application Process
A Chesterfield County application is required for each announced vacancy and must be received by 5 p.m. on the closing date. (Please note the job title, department location and requisition number for personal reference when inquiring about the status of a position.)
Computer access is available at any Chesterfield County Public Library.

Criminal Background Checks
All full-time and part-time new hires are required to be fingerprinted for a criminal background check no later than their first day of employment. Candidates for positions that provide services to juveniles will also be required to submit to a background check conducted by the Virginia Department of Social Services. Continued employment is contingent upon successful completion of these background checks as applicable.
DMV Record Checks
Chesterfield County Government will conduct all DMV record checks.
For positions requiring driving, applicant DMV record must not reflect a total accumulation of six or more demerit points within the 24 months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of 6 demerit points within the preceding 36 months.
For driving record qualifications specific to public safety positions, please refer to the guidelines listed in the job advertisement or visit that particular public safety department's page.
Drug Tests
All full-time and part-time new hires will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug test prior to their scheduled start date, in accordance with Chesterfield County’s Alcohol and Substance Abuse Policy. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of this screening. Additionally, employees in safety-sensitive positions or positions that require a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) are also subject to random drug testing as a requirement of continued employment.

Employees must provide documentation to show your identify and authorization to work. The U.S Department of Homeland Security - U.S Citizenship and Immigration Services outlines acceptable documents (PDF).
Reasonable Accommodations
All individuals with a disability as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended, during the application, interview and/or selection process may request reasonable accommodations.
- When an applicant wishes to self-identify and make a request for an accommodation due to a documented disability during the selection process, the Applicant Self-Identification and Request for Accommodation Form (PDF) must be completed.
- The completed form must be submitted to Human Resources for processing.
- Requests for accommodations should be made at the time of application or as soon as the applicant is invited to interview or participate in any phase of the selection process. Failure to do so may result in delays.
