Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System Permit

Chesterfield County’s Virginia Stormwater Management Program (VSMP) Individual Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Permit VA 00088609 (PDF) was reissued to the county in December 2014 under the Virginia Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (VPDES) permitting program of the Virginia Stormwater Management Act.

The purpose of the permit is to authorize the discharge of stormwater from the MS4 and require the implementation of a MS4 Program Plan (PDF). This will control and manage stormwater and reduce the pollutants discharged from the MS4 to waters of the state. We are responsible for overall implementation of the VSMP permit requirements including the annual reporting requirements.

Stormwater Capital Improvement Projects

The Department of Environmental Engineering is responsible for the overall implementation of the county’s stormwater permit. The permit authorizes the county to discharge stormwater from the storm sewer system and requires the implementation of programs, such as the Capital Improvement Program, to manage stormwater and reduce pollutants discharged to local streams, creeks and lakes.
