Permit Review Process
After the application and construction documents have been submitted:
Plan reviewers from all applicable departments review the submitted plans and documents to evaluate code and ordinance compliance:
Building Inspections - reviews plans for building code compliance
Addressing - verifies that correct address is being used
Planning - reviews plot plan for property and zoning issues
Utilities - reviews plot plan and application for water and sewer availability and clearance to easements

Health - reviews are required for facilities with food service, bed and breakfasts, hotels and motels, marinas, public pools and buildings with a septic or well system
If the construction documents are approved, the process proceeds to Permit Issuance.
If corrections are required by:
The Building Inspection Department - The plans are placed on "hold" and the applicant is notified by letter or email once all applicable reviews are completed.
Any department other than Building Inspection - A letter will be mailed once the last department review has been completed. Review results are also available online.
If desired, the applicant may schedule a meeting with a Building Inspection Department plan review staff member to discuss outstanding issues by calling 804-717-6443.
The applicant submits the corrected construction documents for review. See "Submitting Revised Construction Documents".
Once all of the departments have approved the permit application and associated documents the permit is issued.
