Chesterfield Police Department - Explorer Post 609
Exploring is a division of Boy Scouts of America for young men and women. Law enforcement explorer posts provide opportunities for young adults to explore law enforcement careers, the criminal justice system and to promote character development and citizenship training.
Employment / Career Services
Character - Must be of good moral character Residency
Must be a resident of Chesterfield County or of a city or county that does not have a law enforcement explorer post Education
Must be currently enrolled in high school or received a high school diploma or equivalent Background Check
Must pass a limited background check Uniform
Must purchase own uniform
Career - Explorers learn about career opportunities in law enforcement at the local, state and federal levels. They also analyze criminal justice education requirements and visit various law enforcement facilities.
Community Service - Explorers will be involved in civic events, crime prevention displays, traffic control and will assist police personnel with a variety of non-enforcement related tasks.
Ride-Along - Qualified explorers may ride on patrol with officers on a limited basis to observe police work first hand.
Social - Explorers participate in sports, functions, picnics and field trips.
