The Youth Citizen Board (YCB) was formed in 1978 by the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors. The purpose of the Youth Citizen Board is to advise the Board of Supervisors regarding issues relating to youth and to provide opportunities for community input on youth issues in Chesterfield County.

The Youth Citizen Board:

  • Engages youth around the county to participate in local government
  • Organizes special initiatives and events
  • Participates in community service projects
  • Provides a forum for youth related issues

Meetings

  • 6 p.m.
  • Second Monday of the month, September through May
  • Held virtually and in-person

Membership

  • Youth Citizen Board Application Form
  • Number of Members: One junior and one senior from each county high school and up to eight at-large youths representing students not enrolled in Chesterfield County Public Schools, such as those attending home, private or governor’s schools. Additionally, adults may volunteer to work with the youth members of the board.
  • Terms of Service: Students who join the board as juniors serve a two year term. Those who join as seniors serve for one year. Adult volunteers serve for a full year and can choose whether or not to continue volunteering beyond the first year.

Adults interested in volunteering with the Youth Citizen Board may complete a volunteer application and submit it to the Community Engagement Coordinator - Youth Services. Adult volunteers are required to complete a background check.
