SCAN’s mission is to prevent and treat child abuse and neglect throughout the Greater Richmond area by protecting children, promoting positive parenting, strengthening families and creating a community that values and cares for its children.

Eligibility

Most referrals are from local Department of Social Services and the Juvenile and Domestic Relations courts. Services are available to anyone in the City of Richmond and the surrounding counties of:

  • Chesterfield
  • Colonial Heights
  • Hanover
  • Henrico
  • Hopewell
  • Louisa
  • Petersburg
  • Powhatan
  • Prince George

Comments

The Family Support Program provides treatment groups and education groups each week for families who have experienced, or are at high risk of experiencing, child abuse or neglect. The Circle Preschool serves children impacted by trauma related to abuse, neglect and exposure to domestic violence. The Child Advocacy Center is based on a national model that provides comprehensive intervention designed around what is best for victimized children. Families are Magic (FAM) creates an educated community, capable and motivated to provide appropriate support and intervention on behalf of children.
