Military Discharges
Access to Military Discharges Recorded
Code of Virginia § 17.1-265 - provides strict guidelines by which access to military discharges may be granted. A written request and photo ID are required.
- Request to Access Military Discharge Record (PDF) - Form to be completed by individual requesting access.
- Authorization to Access Military Discharge Record (PDF) - Form to be completed by the subject of the military discharge record in order to grant access to another individual.
Recordation
For Chesterfield residents, the original or a properly authenticated copy of the following may be recorded free of charge
- Discharge certificate
- Report of separation from active duty (Department of Defense Document DD-214)

Note
Recording hours are subject to change in the event of inclement weather or holiday closings. Filing parties are encouraged to call the Clerk's Office in advance to ascertain any deviation from normal recording hours.
Filings
The Court does not accept case-related filings via the internet, email or fax. Filings are accepted via mail, courier or hand delivery.
Location
The Circuit Court Clerk's Office is on the first floor of the Courts Building located at the intersection of Ironbridge Road (Route 10) and Courthouse Road. The Courthouse is a large brick building with white columns and a circular drive.
Parking
Parking is permitted in any area except those that are gated, marked "reserved," or designated for jurors. There is no fee for parking.
