Tara Carroll Sworn in as Interim Midlothian District Supervisor

Tara Carroll was sworn in June 30, 2022 as the Midlothian District's interim representative on the Chesterfield Board of Supervisors.

Accompanied by her family, Carroll took the oath of office during a brief ceremony in Chesterfield’s Public Meeting Room.

The Board of Supervisors appointed Carroll at its June 29 business meeting to succeed Leslie Haley, who resigned June 3 to accept a position as Virginia’s deputy attorney general for government operations and transactions.

Carroll will hold the office until a Nov. 8 special election, when voters in the Midlothian District choose a candidate to serve out the remaining year on Haley’s term.

“I’m excited to give back to a community that affords my family and I the excellent quality of life we enjoy in Midlothian,” Carroll said. “I’m also honored to have a role in guiding the future of the Midlothian District and enriching the lives of all Chesterfield County residents.”

Following Haley’s resignation, the four remaining members of the Board of Supervisors convened a special meeting on June 13 to articulate the application process for filling the vacant Midlothian District seat on an interim basis.

The board received eight applications. Six of the applicants met the requirements outlined in the June 13 meeting and were considered by board members before they selected Carroll, who has an extensive background in civic engagement.

In those roles, she has gained experience in constituent services, critical thinking and communication, along with passion for fiscally sound, transparent and accountable governance.

“We appreciate all who applied for the interim position on the board,” said Chris Winslow, board chair and representative of the Clover Hill District. “We were fortunate to be able to fill that seat very efficiently and with someone we believe will do an outstanding job representing the Midlothian District.”

A professional actor and singer, Carroll has performed both on-stage and in technical support in various productions at Chesterfield’s Swift Creek Mill Theater, Virginia Repertory Theatre and Glen Allen Cultural Arts Center.

Carroll, who grew up in Midlothian, earned a degree in Musical Theater from the University of Miami.
